Long Island Real Estate
East of Manhattan on the southeastern rim of New York State is Long Island. It is renowned for breathtaking beaches, quality education facilities, precious heritage locations and popular parks and museums. It’s no wonder real estate and business is booming in the area, with more companies and families choosing to relocate there every day. Whether you love your work, your wine, the country lifestyle or simply enjoy a weekend of fishing and fun, Long Island has it all and once you holiday there, you will want to make it your home.
Currently recorded as one of the top ten wealthiest places in the country, there are two faces to Long Island - the suburban side that is considered part of New York and the side that contains smaller villages, beaches, parks, farms and vineyards. It’s the diversity of the island that has successfully attracted so many people to appear, whether for a vacation or a more permanent stay.
The Hamptons are on the South Fork and boasts sunny weather, protected beaches, high-class outlets, quality dining, world-class golf courses, galleries and museums. Some say it is the Beverley Hills of Long Island and it’s not uncommon to find a celebrity or two in it’s midst. The North & South Shores are where the beaches seem to never end and the quaint colonial architecture is valued and preserved. Then there is the North Fork, which is a community of vineyards, farms, cottages and manors, revealed after a cool drive through natural forests.
There are over a hundred beaches outlining Long Island. The largest is Jones Beach, which is over six and a half miles long and enough parking for twenty thousand cars! If you prefer something a little more low-key, there are many other alternatives. An example of the contrast is beautiful Wainscott Beach, which has minimal parking and nowhere near as many visitors.
Many who visit the island, especially those seeking an “away from it all” quiet getaway, favor North Fork. It’s populated with at least twenty wineries and vineyards, as well as some memorable art galleries. Many are impressed with the stands on the side of the road, offering fresh picked seasonal fruit and vegetables. Shelter Island is another sight to be seen, featuring acres of bush walking tracks, beaches, kayaking and bicycling. Everything slows down when you step onto Shelter Island and memories of the fast-paced rat race melt away.
All the natural beauty of the island is within driving distance of a suburban atmosphere. Long Island has been cementing its position in the business world and the economy has been growing steadily in strength over the years, in spite of downfalls nationwide. The commercial real estate is abundant with high-rate A-class office spaces leased by top companies, as well as quality B-class business lettings, of which many are suitable for smaller industries and individuals. Garden City is a perfect example of this, as your business is bound to boom being so close to the city center, railroad and many large and profitable organizations. There are also Melville, Hauppauge and Bohemia, which are all places filled with trade activity and there are always some offices available to rent. You will be able to find a suitable business residence in any of these areas and for the smaller companies and individuals, some come fully furnished on short-term leases.
The schools of Long Island are versatile, with plenty of private and public institutions to choose from. They have a success rate that can be considered second to none and a positive 88% of high school graduates continuing on to college. There are seventeen esteemed colleges and universities to choose from, eight junior colleges and five alternative professional institutes for further studies.
There are many parks in Long Island and most are open year round from sunrise to sunset. From Montauk Point State Park that features the historic Montauk Lighthouse and offers some of the top surf fishing in the world, to Connetquot River State Park Preserve that has acres of land and water for the fortification and breeding of game birds, fish and animals. So diverse is the terrain in it’s flora and fauna, you will never tire of the sight seeing.
Real estate on the Island has experienced steady growth over the years and projections show future increase in market values. If you are looking to spend a relaxing vacation to “get away from it all” or want to make a more permanent move, Long Island Real estate has everything you desire. You can buy or rent in a suburban area where employment opportunities are plentiful or choose a change of pace by investing in farming or agriculture, while still being close to the cities. Opportunities are always available and any investment in the area will be a sound one.
Long Island is a place other states look to as a role model in matters of culture, finance, entertainment, fashion and food. It may have some similarities to New York, but also has its own distinctive character. You won’t be disappointed when choosing it for your new home or holiday destination.
